Decorating at Missouri Veterans’ Home

On Saturday, November 29, 2014, members of the Blue Knights along with the O’Fallon Police and City Hall joined in the MO Vets Holiday Decoration at the Missouri Veterans’ Home. The Veterans’ home is home to 300 veterans. We decorated the cafeteria, foyer and hallways. This community event was sponsored by The Mission Continues. “The Mission Continues empowers veterans facing the challenge of adjusting to life at home to find new missions. We redeploy veterans in their communities, so that their shared legacy will be one of action and service.”

The Missouri Veterans Homes manage a total of 1350 beds that provide long term skilled nursing care in compliance with 157 Federal Department of Veterans Affairs regulations. The Homes are located in Cameron, Cape Girardeau, Mexico, Mount Vernon, St. James, St. Louis, and Warrensburg.

Stepping Up

Items donated to support police and delivered to O'Fallon Missouri Police Dept.

Just when you thought that everyone hates police, something like this happens. The attached picture shows the donations from citizens for the officers that will be on the front lines during the upcoming civil disturbances. This is just what came in this weekend. Remember we usually aren’t dealing with the good people of the world unless they are victims.

Thoughts on Belgium Riots by Belgium Blue Knight

From our President, Doug Casteel:

The below is from a Blue Knight friend of mine in Belgium. They are currently experiencing riots and one of his colleagues (what they call brother officers) wrote this. The author Alain Vanbeneden said these are just the words that were in his head, that he couldn’t get out so he expressed them in writing. I thought they were quite fitting.

belgium riots

You came to our town, saying it was about claiming your rights
We only saw you bringing violence, destruction and chaos …

You were hundreds and you fought us
We were outnumbered and many of us got wounded
But for each of us falling, another took his place on the line …

You were hundreds and thought it was you against us
But it was WE against your rage …

You were hundreds and brought hatred, stones, slingshots, flares, whatever
We didn’t only have our shields, sticks and teargas: we have more … WE ARE more …

You were hundreds
But WE ARE ONE …

We are a brotherhood, each of us caring for the other
We are a family sharing our pains and joys
We won’t let one of us fall but will stand side by side because that’s what we are

You were hundreds
But WE ARE ONE …
WE ARE THE POLICE

That’s why you failed

Proud to be a Blue Knight

Duane Potter, President, Kansas V posted to Blue Knights LEMC Facebook page: “Today, as the President of Kansas V, I will have the pleasure to present a check to Seaborn “Willie” Hall (NY 27) and his wife Sue in the amount of $2,804.00. This was all raised through the generous donations of the brothers and sisters during the MWRC Fall Conference.

Willie and Sue are leaving Wichita today to return home after 11 weeks of Willie being hospitalized following his crash on July 31st.” Willie, a member of BK New York XXVII, had been westbound on I-70 in Lincoln County, Kansas, when his motorcycle struck a cooler in the inside passing lane. Willie was on his way to Bike Week in South Dakota and was seriously injured.

“The support and compassion extended to Willie and Sue provides demonstrative testimony to why I am proud to be a Blue Knight! and especially a member of the best conference in the world! I’m very proud of the MWRC for stepping up and supporting a brother in need!”

BK President IL VI Needs Good Thoughts and Hopes

September 24, 2014
BK President Jason McFarland of IL VI in Effingham, IL needs all your good thoughts and hopes.

Jason has recently been diagnosed with a cancerous cyst on the aorta. Doctors told him that surgery to remove it would leave him with only a 70% change of waking so they suggested he go to the cancer hospital in Houston, TX for another opinion which he did. The doctor there gives him a 95% chance of making it thru surgery and has prescribed chemo to shrink the tumor first. He is currently going thru that process and the tumor is in fact shrinking. If all continues as is currently happening with it, surgery is scheduled for next month.

I spoke with him yesterday and to let him know that if he needs anything, the Blue Knights will be there for him. His only request for assistance at this time is for all the prayers you can provide for him and his family.

I would also ask that you take the time to send him an email wishing him a complete recovery and thereby showing that you stand with him and his family in his time of need. His email address is [email protected] and he can sure use the support of the Blue Knight family.

And if there are any Blue Knights in the Houston area that can be there to support his family when he undergoes surgery, that would also be truly appreciated. Any questions, let me know.

Gayle Murnane

GLRC IL State Rep
P.S. Jason is only 42 years old.
